Former Coast Guard family housing site in Downeast Maine up for auction
A former U.S. Coast Guard family housing site in Maine has been put on the auction block by the federal government.The General Services Administration (GSA) announced Monday that the 9.9-acre property in Jonesport is up for sale through a public auction.Located just off of Mason Bay Road/Route 187, just two miles north of the town center, the Jonesport property includes nine 1,255-square-foot single-family units that each come with three bedrooms, 1 1/2 bathrooms, an unfinished basement, a one-car garage and a shed. The property also has a 1,000-square-foot garage/maintenance building and a water/cistern building.The GSA said the condition of the property is not warranted, which means the property is being sold as is and the buyer takes on the responsibility of any repairs that need to be made.The Jonesport property has been vacant for several years, as all the homes were vacated between 2020 and 2022 after a new Coast Guard family housing site opened in nearby Harrington in June 2021.The auction opened at noon Tuesday, April 22, and will close on Monday, May 19.The GSA said interested bidders are required to register in advance and submit a $50,000 registration deposit.
